Hey there! This blog is about me and my journey through my martial arts training. I’m 27 and I’ve been studying the martial arts for several years.

I started when I was 11 at NAAMA Karate in Michigan. In three years I worked my way through the ranks to a brown belt with two stripes which is the belt before black belt. I was training for my black belt test when my parents decided to move. At 14 I started over from white belt at an Isshinryu Karate dojo in Ohio. I trained there for the rest of high school and tested for my black belt at 17. Shortly after reaching Shodan I left for college and my parents moved away.

I dabbled in the martial arts on and off during college/grad school but I didn’t do anything serious. It wasn’t until I moved to North Carolina that I found my new martial arts home and realized that I truly did love karate. After 7/8 months of studying in a new style I earned 1st degree black belt at my new dojo and I’m working my way towards my 2nd degree test in 2012 (ETA: passed it!). This marks a new beginning in my martial arts training. I’m no expert but I’m excited to go deeper into my martial arts training. This blog is another part of truly understanding just what exactly it is we do out there on the mats.

I’m the kids’ instructor at my dojo so this blog will also be a place where I record some of the training ideas I come up with for my class. I try to keep it fun and interesting! So this blog is about a little bit of everything that I do in the dojo. Thanks for reading! 🙂
